Know-Key™ General Description

The Know-Key™ System is a series of microcomputer controlled, user programmable keyless activation devices. The Know-Key™ utilizes either a photo-interrupter or a mechanical contact as its input source** for serial data entry. It is designed for use as a programmable keyless activation system for land, sea and air vehicles, structures or anywhere where a key may be unavailable or undesirable. The versatility and elegant design of the Know-Key™ lends itself very well to a myriad of applications.

Functional Description

In a typical application, the Know-Key™ provides an automobile lockout solution. The Know-Key™ would be installed within an automobile's door (typically the driver's door or any other user accessible location). A signal interrupt flag is mounted inside the door at the door's handle just outside the sensing system's path. This provides the user with a system interface point external to the vehicle. In a lockout situation the user raises and lowers the door handle, the flag (which is tied to the handle) moves in/out of the Know-Key™, resulting in the input of Persoanl ID code data. As the handle is raised/lowered then paused, the digit "1" is entered. When the handle is raised/lowered/raised/lowered, paused, a "2" is thusly entered and so on. This data is sent and stored in the micro-controller. At the end of the user's data entry string the entered Personal ID code is compared to a pre-set Personal ID code.. A Personal ID code match enables the Know-Key™ output whereby an unlock signal to the door motor results and allows the user entry to the automobile.

Regulated input provides power to the Know-Key™ via any standard vehicular power source.
